1867, 33-1/3c Violet Brown, -1/3bbl., Beer (REA10; Priester 10D). Cut to shape as always, margins to just in, neat Lyon & Co. San Francisco cancel, few creases and minor edge tears. VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1867 ONE-THIRD BARREL ISSUE. ONLY SEVEN ARE RECORDED. The Priester census records a total of seven examples of this issue. All are cut to shape. This particular example realized a total price of $2875 when it last sold at public auction.
